Transitive Group Actions

Every action of a group on a set decomposes the set into orbits. The group acts on each of the orbits and an orbit does not have sub-orbits (unequal orbits are disjoint), so the decomposition of a set into orbits could be considered as a “factorization” of the set into “irreducible” pieces for the group action. Our focus here is on these irreducible parts, namely group actions with a single orbit.

Ball transitive ordered metric spaces

0. Introduction. If (X,≤) is a partially ordered set and A ⊆ X, then the decreasing hull d(A) of A in X is defined to be d(A) = {x ∈ X : x ≤ a for some a ∈ A}. If the poset X is not understood from the context, we may write dX(A). A subset A ⊆ X is a decreasing set if A = d(A). The intersection or union of any collection of decreasing sets in X is again a decreasing set in X. The increasing hul...

Metrically Transitive Point

denote a denumerable set of point transformations in w-dîmensional euclidean space, the transformations of which leave a certain ^-dimensional (p^n) region R (regionsopen, connected point set) of this space invariant. The case where R is the entire w-dimensional space is not excluded. The set of transformations (1) will be said to be metrically transitive with respect to R, if the complement se...

Homogeneous Spaces and Transitive Actions by Polish Groups

We prove that for every homogeneous and strongly locally homogeneous Polish space X there is a Polish group admitting a transitive action on X. We also construct an example of a homogeneous Polish space which is not a coset space and on which no separable metrizable topological group acts transitively.

Homogeneous Spaces and Transitive Actions by Analytic Groups

If X is homogeneous, analytic, and strongly locally homogeneous, then there is an analytic group acting transitively on X. There is an example of an analytic space on which some separable metrizable group acts transitively, but on which no analytic group acts transitively.
